Currently there is human rights violation in Uganda as a whole and Luweero in particular especially among girls and women affected by and infected with HIVS/AIDS. Such cases of violation include forced marriage, rape, defilement, wife inheritance, unfair l land laws and discrimination among others.
With the increasing rate of violation of such marginalized groups of individuals, NYIMUPHAs took upon itself to answer the cry of those groups. In 2012, it partnered with Human Rights Awareness and Promotion Forum (HRAPF) to address the identified issues of human rights violation.NYIMUPHAs and HRAPF decided to train paralegals for that case. We targeted girls and women affected by and infected with HIV/AIDS from Luweero and other districts.
We managed to train five paralegals per districts and six for Luweero who are currently sensitizing and creating awareness among the marginalized groups.
This has so far reduced on the number of girls and women being discriminated because most of them have got to know their rights and the actions to be taken in case of discrimination and violation.
Currently the paralegals trained in Luweero are covering three sub- counties of Nyimbwa, Kalagala, Luweero and one town council of Bombo. Our plan is to reach out to the whole of Luweero by 2015 and also spread out to the neighboring districts
